If you're a moderate to advanced “home sewer” who wants to learn about tailoring but doesn't know where to start, then I'd definitely recommend this book!
TAILORING: The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket
“Home sewing” and “tailoring” are two very different fields of expertise – not just in terms of methods and techniques, but the actual mentality, desired results, and perhaps even the fundamental philosophy.
It’s quite a leap, and this book is a great introduction to the field of tailoring.
It’s worth noting that it’s somewhat reductionist in places, and there are many other (and better) tailoring techniques than the ones described in this book.
However, while other books on the topic may be “better” in practical application and final results, they’re also quite advanced and can be overwhelming to the uninitiated.
This book’s strength is its accessibility: clear descriptions and objectives accompanied by beautiful color photos, easy to read and absorb in small doses.
It’s on this basis that I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wanting to raise their sewing game and/or dive into the field of tailoring.
